The last weeks have felt like a great deal in the idea of abundance for me. First, SZA, Victoria and Miley, won their things at the Grammys along with all the amazing performances that were offered as well. I got Usher at the Super bowl. Beyoncé decided to grace us with her country presence after being “quiet” but still talking through her art and loved ones (I saw and heard you Jay-Z). We are so lucky to be living in such a vibrant time of arts with the girls also coming with their albums soon too. (I mean you Dua, Ariana, Beyoncé, Kacey)
But things are about to change. The Lenten Season is upon those that follow the liturgical season and really focus on the church calendar like that for real. Funny enough, Ash Wednesday falls on Valentines Day this year. It is like the David and Goliath of our modern era. Of course, I figure culturally that Valentine’s Day will be the most prominent but for me and my house, we will be over here with ashes on our faces and abstaining from meat. It feel antiquated and of an old school time, but again we are living in such a rich time and sometimes in order to appreciate the things you have it is necessary to take a break and enjoy other things.
So in honor of the Lenten season, which for our friends unaware is the time in the church calendar that starts the journey of Jesus to the Cross and we as his followers become more somber and introspective to the ways that our faith can be “reborn or renewed”. Just as Jesus will be ressurected and alive again once the stone is rolled away. Usually during this time, Christians give up meat on Fridays and also give up other things that might separate them from their faith, it is up to the individual.
For many years, I have added things to my life versus taking something away. For this year, I am going to try to watch less TV and spend more time with my loved ones and doing things that give me pleasure and teach me something or offer me stimulation in the different ways that TV usual does.
I have also been struggling with my health and so I am really going to focus on exercise and eating because that affects me right away. Take in more water, less coffee. Walk more, eat well, love more, give. I think that is my plan, I would love to hear yours if you care to share?
